Fenton Sunset Stretch Yesterday and Today Vase & Turtle Set
The craftsmen at Fenton Art Glass are proud of their ability to produce new colors in a variety of molds, and they've created a new collection celebrating these skills. Fenton's Sunset Stretch is the premier issue in their Yesterday and Today Collection. The collection highlights various color treatments and molds produced from the early 1900s through today. A leaf vase created from a mold originally owned by the Beaumont Glass Company and acquired by Fenton in 1991 satisfies the yesterday component of this set. It's crafted in historic Sunset Stretch glass--a color that's similar to one produced in the early 1920s. The today item in this set is a turtle, molded from a sculpture by Jon Saffel and introduced as part of the Fenton line for 2002. Also done in Sunset Stretch glass, the turtle features handpainted flower accents on its shell. Both pieces are inscribed with the Yesterday and Today Collection logo.Vase measures 6H. When presented with a piece of the glass, Queen Victoria said it reminded her of a Burmese sunset--hence the name for this extraordinary glass.A heat-sensitive mixture of depleted uranium and pure gold produces the special shade: the uranium creates the custard color and the gold helps develop the blush of rose that surrounds the vase.
